Reaching Out to Those in Need

Holiday "Giving"

December 6, 2002  It's the season to give to those in need. The news reports are of soup kitchens struggling to keep up, homeless shelters utilized to capacity and more families seeking assistance. Members of the Hamilton community reach out in many ways. Some contribute through their normal volunteer activities like 4-H or the Scouts, others give individually, and some offices get organized to “adopt a family,” fill food baskets, bake cookies or make donations to local charities. Health Insurance and Reimbursement Account Open Enrollment
The deadline for health insurance changes and 2003 Reimbursement Account open enrollment is Friday, Dec. 6.  Below is a summary of action required:

• If you are currently enrolled in the Blue PPO, you will be automatically transferred to the MVP PPO unless you advise Personnel Services in writing that you wish to select a different option.

• If you are currently enrolled in an MVP HMO, and want to retain your current coverage, no action is required.

• If you want to add or delete dependents to your coverage, please contact Donna Grygiel at ext. 4689.

• If you wish to participate in a Medical Expense or Dependent Care Reimbursement Account in 2003, a new enrollment form is required, even if you are a current participant.  Enrollment forms are available on the web at Compensation Form or from Personnel Services, ext. 4689.

Invest More for Retirement in 2003
Effective Jan. 1, 2003, all College employees will be eligible to contribute up to $12,000 to a voluntary 403(b) retirement account.  If you are 50 years old or older, you will be able to contribute up to $14,000 in 2003.

To increase the level of your contribution, simply complete a revised Salary Reduction Agreement.  This form is available on the Web at  Reduction Form  or from Personnel Services, ext. 4689.

Savers Tax Credit
A new “Saver’s Credit” or income tax credit is available in 2002 for certain taxpayers with adjusted gross income that does not exceed $50,000 ($25,000 if tax filing status is single or married filing separate).

This credit is available for contributions made to 403(b) and 401(k) accounts and IRAs.  If you would like additional information about this new tax provision, contact Personnel Services, ext. 4302.

Procedures in the Event the College is Closed
On rare occasions, the College is closed due to emergency situations such as hazardous weather conditions, power outages or other circumstances which might hamper the normal business of the College.
