Heart Run This Year on February 22

January 24, 2003  It's time to sign up for the annual America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk, being held this year on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Utica College. Run as a team, walk with your friends, make this a team challenge! There are many ways to participate, from the 30k run to the 3 mile walk. Last year's team raised $6,454 with 89 participants, and this year's organizers, Marylyn Nassimos and Kelly Walton, are confident Team Hamilton can raise even more money this year. More ...

TIAA-CREF Representative to be on Campus

Tom Kelly from TIAA-CREF will be on campus to provide individual counseling sessions on Thursday, March 27, and Thursday, April 24. These individual sessions will be held in Personnel Services.  All College employees are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to confidentially discuss current investment strategies and to receive guidance on how to meet your long-term investment goals. Tom is prepared to address questions about asset allocation as well as general retirement planning issues. If you would like to schedule a personal appointment, call Julie Wagner, ext 4302.

Invest More for Retirement in 2003

Effective January 1, 2003, all College employees are eligible to contribute up to $12,000 to a voluntary 403(b) retirement account.  If you are 50 years old or older, you will be able to contribute up to $14,000 in 2003.

To increase the level of your contribution, simply complete a revised Salary Reduction Agreement.  This form is available on the Web at http://onthehill.hamilton.edu/pdf/reductionform.pdf or from Personnel Services, ext. 4689.

Savers Tax Credit

A new “Saver’s Credit” or income tax credit became available in 2002 for certain taxpayers with adjusted gross income that does not exceed $50,000 ($25,000 if tax filing status is single or married filing separately).

This credit is available for contributions made to 403(b) and 401(k) accounts and IRAs.  If you would like additional information about this new tax provision before you file your 2002 tax return, contact Personnel Services, ext. 4302.

College Alcohol and Drug Policies

Hamilton College is committed to the development and maintenance of an educational and workplace environment in compliance with the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act of 1989 and the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 and will not tolerate the unlawful possession, use or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol by students and employees on its property or as part of any of its activities.  Compliance with these policies is a condition of employment.  Disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment and referral for prosecution, may be required of any employee who is found to be in violation of any of these standards of conduct.  Details of these policies as well as a summary of New York State laws governing alcohol, legal sanctions pertaining to drug use, health risks associated with use, available educational programs and alcohol and other drug counseling and treatment programs appear on the College’s Web site: Policy.   If you would like a printed copy of this information, please contact the Personnel Office, ext.4302.
