Program Outcomes in 2006-2007

  • 125 Hamilton College students participated through a service-learning class or as volunteers, contriuting over 1,476 hours of tutoring to the Utica Community!
  • 9 faculty members included Project SHINE in 12 academic courses  
  • 10 ESOL/Citizenship instructors welcomed coaches into their classrooms 
  • SHINE Coaches worked with an estimated 200 immigrant and refugee learners, from over 20 countries.   

...In 2005-2006

  • 144 Hamilton College and Utica College students participated as coaches or tutors, contributing a total fo 2,600 volunteer hours
  • 10 new Hamilton and Utica College professors included Project SHINE in their classes
  • An estimated 154 learners from over 20 countries benefitted from their interaction with Project SHINE
  • 15 learners became U.S. citizens!
  • 40 Hamilton College students participated in Literacty Volunteers of America's intensive ESOL tutor training
