$2.5 Million Donation For Arts Facility Renovation

The $2.5 million donation from class of 1949 graduate and local business executive Eugene Romano lent further momentum to plans for new art and theatre facilities. Earlier this year, President Joan Hinde Stewart announced that the plans that were approved by the Board of Trustees would have to be scaled back because of a daunting $80 million anticipated cost. Campus Integrates The New Hill Card

The long-awaited implementation of Hamilton's new all-purpose Hill Card may face more problems than previously expected. The cards, intended eventually to serve as a multi-use keys, meal cards, Campus Cash vouchers, and identification cards for the Hamilton community, were conceived to streamline the turnkey system currently in place. However, bringing Hamilton College into the 21 century has proven frustrating for students and administrators alike, with numerous glitches reported, as well as delayed installation of many of the Hill Card's much touted features. Former President Payne Passes Away

On Monday January 9, 2008, Harry C. "Hank" Payne, president of the Woodward Academy and former president of Hamilton College, took his own life in midtown Atlanta, Georgia. Payne was 60 years old and leaves behind a wife, Deborah, and two sons, Jonathan and Samuel. More. . . |

Hamilton Honors MLK Jr. With Week Long Activities

While many people honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 21, Hamilton College dedicated an entire week to celebrate the civil rights activist through community service, performance, worship, and more. Under the Tucson Sun: Students Work at the Border

This winter break, 18 Hamilton students embarked on an educational and humanitarian aid trip to the borderlands of Southern Arizona. The group spent seven days in the Sonoran Desert with humanitarian organization No More Deaths patrolling migrant paths and stocking water stations. Through discussion with local activists, students learned about the effects of U.S. and Mexican border policy and the plight of Mexican migrants in the southern United States. Tori Nygren '10 said, "Looking back on my knowledge about the U.S. border policy and how I felt about illegal immigration before the trip, and comparing those feelings to what I know now, I am stunned at how naive we are living in the Northeast.
