The Black Pirate and The Flicker
by Rebekah Mintzer '09
Next week, the F.I.L.M. program at Hamilton will welcome two films and guest speaker/performers that are simply too good to miss. The first event, on Sunday Febrauary 17 at 2 p.m. in KJ Auditorium, will be a screening of The Black Pirate (1926) with live accompaniment from the Alloy Orchestra, which Roger Ebert has called "the best group in the world at accompanying silent film." The Alloy Orchestra hails from Cambridge, Mass and features three main performers, Terry Donahue (junk, accordian, musical saw, vocals), Ken Winokur (director, junk percussion and clarinet), and Roger Miller (keyboards). Using this "rack of junk" and electonic synthesizers, the Alloy Orchestra creates a wide stylistic variety of sounds. More. . . |

Prinzhorn Dance School - Prinzhorn Dance School
by Chris Rand '09
Upon first listen, Prinzhorn Dance School's debut may come off as another one of indie-rock's self-contented forays into The Fall and Wire, if not more frustratingly simple. But, Tobin Prinz and Suzi Horn's interest in minimalism and negative sonic space truly sets this Brighton-based duo apart from their influence flaunting peers, forming a wholly new style. More. . . |
