Hamilton's Alcohol Problem | CES Doesn't Solve Problem

Dear Spectator,
This letter to the editor is written in response to the article, "Hamilton's Alcohol Problem," from the February 22nd edition of the Spectator. Let me begin by acknowledging that there are indeed objectionable instances of excessive alcohol consumption at Hamilton College. Young adults here and elsewhere abuse substances as a means to a good time, and even abuse substances as an end unto itself. But Mr. Currier, in his passionate declamation of the "pathetically deteriorated student social life," has, I think, inaccurately represented and unfairly insulted members of the college community. The Rumor
Hamilton College's signature postcard feature, the Chapel, has been acting oddly lately, with the bells signalling a new hour ringing about ten minutes before the hour actually turns. In addition to frightening a certain writer who could have sworn he had more time before class started, the bell's premature reverberation may be signalling more than an improper calibration. The Spoiler Effect: Nader Joins the Campaign

A few days ago, Ralph Nader announced that he was running for President in 2008 as an independent candidate. Nader is a distinguished lawyer and a left-leaning political and social activist, and he ran for President in 2000 and 2004 with the backing of the Green Party and as an independent candidate, respectively. Back in 2000, Nader was blamed for handing over the election to George Bush because of the so-called "spoiler effect." More. . . |
