    The practice of hunting whales has existed since at least 6000 B.C. Though it started as a sustenance practice, the demand for whale oil and whale meat soon forced the industry to become industrialized. Today, there is a very small market for whale oil; however, the demand for whale meat keeps whaling prominent in many areas of the world.
