Democracy in Pakistan and US National Interests

    On the February 18 the Pakistani people voted in elections for a new parliament. The elections had been postponed after the tragic death of the secularist statesman and former prime minister Benazhir Bhutto during a terrorist attack at a political rally. The elections, as expected, resulted in the victory for her party, the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and another opposition party: the Pakistani Muslim League (PLM-N). Together, both parties received over 50 percent of the vote, and both of them are parties that call for greater democracy in Pakistan. More. . .
 

Letter Regarding Thefts


    At the risk of being mocked by yet another tasteless Duel Observer story, I feel the need to comment on a situation that I simply can't get off of my mind.  As I walked through the Science Center recently, I saw a few flyers posted on the walls by someone (I won't disclose the person's name here) who claimed that their black Macintosh laptop had been stolen from a room on the second floor on March 2nd.     You would think that after all those "send this to twenty people or you'll die" forwards that piled up in our inbox's early in the millennium, we would have eliminated the idea of chain letters by now. Apparently that isn't the case. I'm still getting emails from friends saying "send this to ten people in the next 15 minutes your you'll never fall in love." More. . .

Hamilton College's newspaper of record, The Spectator, is typically composed of well-written, intriguing student journalism. Recently, however, one of its sections has been hijacked by an opportunistic ideological fascist. This section was formerly home to a wide array of opinions, fostering intelligent discourse on a myriad of issues. It is now little more than the puppet section for an editor bent on campus-wide subjugation of differing opinions, as well as poor spelling. More. . .
