2008 Senior Gift Campaign Exceeds 75% Participation

    The Class of 2008 came one step closer to achieving their ultimate goal of 100 percent class participation in their Senior Gift Campaign for the Class of 2008 Environmental Endowment Fund.  Thanks to the continued and dedicated work of the 2008 Senior Gift Committee, the class exceeded the 75% participation Trustee challenge deadline and earned an additional $2,500 in challenge money for their gift.

Bicentennial class officially accepted

    In 1812 when Alexander Hamilton invested in a small, all-male academy on a hill in New York State, college rankings in the U.S. News and World Report were non-existent. Little did Hamilton know, his college would become one of the top-ranked liberal arts schools in the Nation. With an applicant pool larger and more impressive each year, Hamilton's acceptance rate for the Class of 2012 reached an all-time low of 27 percent. More. . .
 

Eight false fire alarms Sunday

Greg Hartt & Magda Wierzbicka awarded Watson Fellowhips for post-graduate studies abroad

    The Thomas J. Watson Program awarded Greg Hartt '08 and Magda Wierzbicka '08 Watson fellowships for 2008-2009.  The Watson Fellowship provides funding for graduating seniors to travel outside the United States for a year of independent study.  Both Hartt and Wierzbicka have plans for next year to pursue their academic interests in several different countries. Aretha Franklin treats Hamilton community to an unforgettable night of music

    The area in front of the Alumni Gym saw lots of activity last Saturday afternoon as members of the Hamilton community, friends, family, and area residents lined up to see Aretha Franklin perform.  Although the line officially started at 4 p.m., groups of students had collected on the steps of Emerson Lobby by 3:30 p.m.  By the time Hamilton Community members were allowed to enter at 5 p.m., the line reached almost as far as the Christian Johnson building.  While waiting, people entertained themselves with board games, books, and cards while enjoying the wonderful weather.  A group of students also had a small grill set up on the lawn and were cooking burgers and hotdogs. President Stewart declares sabbatical

    In an all-campus e-mail sent out the week before Spring Break, President Joan Hinde Stewart announced that she would be taking a semester-long sabbatical in the spring of 2009. Dean of Faculty Joe Urgo will fill the vacancy of the Office of the President as President Stewart takes a leave of absence to revisit a longstanding academic project on the French Enlightenment. It will be President Stewart's first major departure from the campus since her arrival five years ago.

Tenure granted to Ellingson, Videras

    The Hamilton Board of Trustees granted tenure to Professor of Sociology Stephen Ellingson and Professor of Economics Julio Videras.  Both professors already reflect fondly upon their teaching experiences on the Hill, and look forward to a fulfilling future at Hamilton College. More. . .
 

Update on Hill Card features

    Many of the new features of the Hill Card are in place and working properly, with the exception of the card swipe system for entry into most of the dorms on campus.  Many of the vending machines on campus also need to be updated to the new card system. More. . .
