March to Tibet: arrests and hunger strikes

On the morning of the fourth day, we were to cross the border into the next district, violating our restraining order from the Indian government. We woke up at 4:30 and, after listening to the Tibetan National Anthem, began marching without breakfast. About two hours into the march we heard screams from the front of the line. We saw movement leader Tenzin Tsundue thrown into a white jeep with four police officers. It drove away. All the marchers sat down. I could see at least 100 Indian police officers blocking our path. Ugg boots serve as a conundrum for men and women alike. Women don't know whether to wear them and men don't know what to do when they see them. Although the "boot" is generally associated with winter and cold temperatures, the Ugg defies that "stereotype," whether it's for better or worse. The Rumor
Hamilton College was honored last weekend with a once-in-a-lifetime performance by the Queen of Soul herself, Aretha Franklin, as part of the Sacerdote Great Names program, which brings the hottest speakers and performers to the Hill and the surrounding community. Typical of our college, the red carpet was rolled out for the soul singer, and no detail was spared in making her stay on the Hill perfect. As desirous as the Hamilton community was of pleasing Ms. Franklin, it seems like we could not satiate every appetite that she had. Despite being invited to eat with Hamilton's administrative elite, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer was seen being ferried down the Hill as quickly as physically possible, ditching Hamilton's offerings for the Golden Arches.
