Darfur refugees speak on the Hill

Two refugees from Darfur, Sudan, shared their stories and promoted activism on April 23 in the chapel. The STAND Against Genocide Club invited the two speakers, who are touring the country as part of the SaveDarfur's "Voices from Darfur" series. May Day to feature Applewagon, Eve 6

As spring has finally arrived on the Hill, Hamilton's annual May Day festivities are fast approaching. Jointly sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, WHCL, Student Activities, and Student Assembly, May Day 2008 will take place on Saturday, May 3 on Steuben Football Field. New Community Garden project well underway

The Hamilton College Community Garden project is well underway. At 3 p.m. on Friday, April 25, the community can help with the garden's first planting. All are invited to help transplant approximately 50 flats from the science center greenhouse. According to Andrew Pape '10, "Things are really rolling along with the Community Garden. There's a great crew of students, faculty, and staff working in the greenhouse and out in the garden to get everything started." More. . . |

SJI CEC proposal receives attention atop Hill

On February 20 of this year, the Social Justice Initiative (SJI) unveiled a proposal for a Cultural Education Center (CEC) at Hamilton College. The SJI is a student organization founded earlier this academic year to help provide a forum for the discussion of issues of race and diversity on the Hill and to further collaboration among multicultural groups on campus. The proposal was openly presented at the SJI's biweekly Wednesday Coffee Hour in ELS and was sent to Hamilton faculty and administrators. Since its initial unveiling the proposal has created rippling response among all sectors of the Hamilton community and an array of opinions has surfaced. More. . . |

Students travel to Tanzania

This summer, students enrolled in Women's Studies 332: Field Study Tanzania will embark on a 5-week trip to work with grassroots organizations in Tanzania. Led by Assistant Visiting Professor of Women's Studies Marla Jaksch, the group will co-create and participate in various collaborative service oriented field projects in the rural Masaai and Hadzabe lands, in the Arusha area, along the coast in Dar es Salaam communities, and with Swahili groups on the island of Zanibar. Said trip participant Kate Payne '10, "This field study is sure to be a colorful exploration of Tanzanians outside of the stereotypes of "tribe" or war-torn Africa." More. . . |
