At the end of the sophomore year, when all Hamilton students declare a major, you will design your own program with the guidance and approval of the departments involved. Your plan is then evaluated by the Committee on Academic Standing. At each step, you'll work closely with faculty members to make sure your program meets your needs and the College's standards. The student-faculty relationship is at the heart of Hamilton's educational philosophy; that relationship also makes the interdisciplinary concentration possible.
Those who create an interdisciplinary concentration are sometimes dismissed as students who "can't make up their minds." Don't believe it. At Hamilton, you're regarded a special breed — one of a few students who builds new bridges between disciplines.
Although interdisciplinary majors are not common, most students who graduate with them go on to successful careers. Employers recognize that they are innovative, independent thinkers able to make connections that others don't see.
