The HCJYF takes advising and orientation seriously. Students receive information on how to prepare for their academic and cultural year in France during the spring and summer before departure; they also participate in a well-planned orientation in Biarritz.
In Biarritz, students live with French families who help them get acquainted with life in France. Biarritz is a popular resort town on the French Atlantic coast, lying at the entrance to the Basque country and facing the moun tains of Spain. Its rolling surf and relaxed atmosphere are perfect ingredients for smoothing students' transition to life in France and for forming new friendships in the group. The program (approximately two weeks) in Biarritz includes:
Courses in reading, writing and conversation;
Field trips to locations in the Basque country and local cultural outings;
Regularly scheduled orientation meetings in preparation for Paris;
Individual academic advising with the resident director for the year in Paris.
