Eric Kuhn '09 published an interview this month with White House Photographer and Special Assistant to the President Eric Draper in PBase Magazine. The Washington Examiner picked up on the Pbase article and reported on both Kuhn and this interview in its newspaper and on its Web site. He met Draper in the West Wing while participating in Hamilton's Washington, D.C., program last semester. It took Kuhn two years to arrange for the interview, contacting Draper on a regular basis. Draper was able to schedule an interview on Kuhn's last day in the D.C. program. More ...

On April 15 the Hamilton students currently participating in the college's Washington D.C. program attended a small group lecture with Supreme Court Justice Ruth Ginsberg and students from Cornell and American University. The meeting took place in the Supreme Court's Lawyers Lounge. Justice Ginsberg spoke for a short time about Belva Lockwood, one of her heroes. Lockwood became the first woman admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court in 1879. Ginsberg wrote a forward for the recently published book Belva Lockwood: The Woman Who Would be President by Jill Norgren. More ...

On Tuesday, April 10, the Hamilton students currently participating in the college's Washington D.C. program attended a debate between Senator John Kerry and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich on "Global Climate Change and the Environment." The New York University Brademas Center for the Study of Congress sponsored the event. After the debate, which was covered live by C-Span, Hamilton students were able to speak with Gingrich and Kerry, asking questions and taking pictures. More ...

Students in the Semester in Washington Program visited the World Bank on December 11. The visit began with a luncheon and an overview of the mission and operation of the Bank by Hasan Tuluy P'08, director, Operations and Country Services Department Middle East and North Africa Region. Students then participated in two sessions led by World Bank staff, one on the role of information technology in economic development and one on issues of governance. More ...

Students on the Hamilton College Semester in Washington met on Nov. 1 with Supreme Court Justice Stephen G. Breyer, who has served on the Court since 1994. Justice Breyer discussed the role of the Supreme Court and took questions from students. He also briefed students on Environmental Defense v. Duke Energy and Whorton v. Bochting, the two cases on which the justices were hearing oral arguments that day. After the meeting with Justice Breyer, students were in the Court for oral arguments. More ...

Two students in Hamilton's program in Washington D.C. met U.S. Senator Barack Obama (Illinois). Lynn Wetzel is interning with Rep. Gregory Meeks (6th District, N.Y) and Natasha Jenkins is working in the office of Rep. Bobby Rush (1st District, Ill.) Sixteen Hamilton students are spending the semester in Washington with Professor of Government Ted Eismeier, who is director of the Fall 2006 program.

Hamilton students in Washington toured the Pentagon with alumnus Brian Burns '03.
Students participating in the Hamilton Program in Washington recently toured the Pentagon, led by Hamilton alumnus Brian Burns '03 who works at the Department of Defense. The students in the program conduct research and attend two seminars led by a resident member of Hamilton's government department, and at the same time are working full time in congressional or executive offices. Students also participate in other activities, such as the Pentagon tour, that help them gain insight into a career in Washington. More ...
