Transferring to HamiltonFREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWhen can I transfer to Hamilton, and what are the application deadlines? Students may apply for admission for either the Fall or the Spring semester. The application deadline for the Fall semester is April 15; the deadline for the Spring semester is November 15. If I applied to Hamilton before, do I need to fill out a new application or can I just activate my old application?
You will need to complete a new application and supplement form.
How do I apply? To apply visit www.hamilton.edu/admission/ApplicationProcess/ where you will find the application checklist and link to Common App. Please follow all directions carefully and complete the Hamilton supplement which is found on our web site, not the Common App web site. PLEASE NOTE: No action will be taken on your transfer application until we receive the $75.00 applications fee and completed supplement. Is Financial Aid available? Limited financial aid is available to any student who is a citizen or a permanent resident of the United States. Applicants for financial aid must file both the FAFSA and the CSS Profile form. Those students who submit their financial aid forms before the application deadline will be at a competitive advantage for financial aid. Do I need to have an interview? A personal interview is not required, but it is strongly recommended. The interview is as informative for the prospective student as it is to the admission committee. The decision to transfer is an important and often difficult one; the more informed you are, the better your decision will be. Please note that we do not offer off-campus interviews for transfer students. What kind of grades are you looking for in a Transfer applicant? We have set no minimum GPA that a prospective student must have earned to be considered for admission. However, successful applicants often have earned a 3.0 GPA or higher. How important are my high school grades and standardized test scores? It depends on the student! We look at the secondary school record of every transfer applicant. The longer a student has been in college, the less important his or her high school record becomes. High school performance for a student who has completed two full years of college will be less important than the high school performance for a student who has completed but a single semester. How will my credits transfer? Our Office of the Registrar will evaluate each of the college classes you have taken. Credits earned in the liberal arts will generally be transferred more successfully than credits earned in other programs or fields of study. Is there a maximum amount of credits I can transfer? Not necessarily. However, we do require all students to complete a minimum of two years of coursework at Hamilton College. Can Transfer students live off-campus? Hamilton College is a residential campus. It is the policy of the College that every student lives in campus housing. This applies to transfer students as well as to returning and first-year students. A limited number of seniors are typically given the choice to live on- or off-campus. Can international students apply to transfer to Hamilton?
Anyone can apply to transfer to Hamilton College, but please note that we offer very limited financial aid for international students.
