Scholarships/Grants


Scholarships and grants represent money that does not need to be repaid and account for 83% of all financial aid packages. The average Hamilton scholarship for 2009-2010 academic year is $28,250.

 

Need-Based Scholarships/Grants:

Hamilton Endowed Scholarships account for roughly 43% of the $24.6 million scholarship budget, representing gifts from alumni and friends of the college.   

Federal Pell Grants are given to students whose federally-defined expected family contribution is less than $4,618.  13% of Hamilton students are Pell Grant recipients.

Federal Academic Competitiveness Grants are for freshman and sophomore Pell Grant recipients who are U.S. citizens, studied a "rigorous" curriculum in high school and maintain a 3.0 GPA at Hamilton.

Federal SMART Grants are given to junior and senior Pell Grant recipients who are U.S. citizens, declare certain academic majors and maintain a 3.0 GPA at Hamilton.

TAP Awards are based on taxable income for New York State residents.  (TAP code #0270)

 

Outside Scholarships:

A student must report outside awards to the Financial Aid Office, which will first replace work-study and the loan portion of a student's financial aid package before it will affect the Hamilton College Scholarship.
