At Hamilton . . . the curriculum matters
Most liberal arts colleges offer similar academic programs. Hamilton's curriculum distinguishes itself in several ways:
- There are no distribution requirements (sometimes called a core curriculum) at Hamilton. Instead, advisors and advisees work together to craft a unique, individual academic plan based upon each student's strengths, interests and goals.
- Writing is emphasized at Hamilton, so each student is required to complete three writing-intensive courses. Everyone learns to write well at Hamilton.
- The Senior Program serves as an integrating and culminating experience for the concentration by requiring students to synthesize what they have learned in their first three years of study. Oftentimes, the senior project requires students to work individually with a faculty mentor and to produce original research.
- Individualized instruction is emphasized at Hamilton, from the level of student advising to the opportunities to work collaboratively with faculty members.
