Annual Giving

1812 Leadership Circle

The 1812 Leadership Circle recognizes alumni, parents and friends who support the Annual Fund at a leadership level. Every student benefits from Annual Fund support, some through financial aid and everyone through outstanding academic and co-curricular programs.

The Hamilton community is famous for its commitment to the College. This is one way for the College to express its gratitude.

In May of 1812 the charter was signed establishing Hamilton College. Along with identifying the first professors and president (three turned the job down before Azel Backus accepted) and appointing a committee to secure funds to repair the Hamilton-Oneida Academy in order to render it "commodious and convenient for students," the College's first trustees set among their priorities goals of attracting the most qualified students and offering them the finest education.

Throughout the following two centuries, that original vision has been fulfilled — most likely exceeding the lofty dreams of the College's founders—thanks to a remarkable legacy of support from Hamilton's alumni, parents and friends.

The 1812 Leadership Circle is a new program that recognizes Hamilton's most generous supporters whose contributions form a living endowment that goes directly to the heart of a Hamilton education, supporting the overall quality of students, faculty and the environment in which they live and work.

Unrestricted contributions impact every area of Hamilton's budget, providing flexibility for the president to respond quickly to new opportunities or address challenges, both anticipated and unexpected. The most pressing needs of the College are support for financial aid and academic programs— areas that enable Hamilton to attract the finest students, regardless of their means, and to provide the best possible education to all.

Hamilton's most generous supporters deserve the highest degree of information, access and recognition the College can reasonably provide. Members of the 1812 Leadership Circle will receive:

Printed and electronic communications from key areas of the College that provide updates on programs, needs and policies. Members can expect news about admission, fundraising, building projects, finances, and academic and student life. This information will be sent  electronically as much as possible and in print form when available in hard copy only.

Invitations to special events on campus and off, with opportunities to meet with senior officers of the College.

Acknowledgement as a leadership donor in the annual report of gifts and in an 1812 Leadership Circle brochure.

One of the rewards of making a charitable gift is in knowing that you made a difference. Members of Hamilton's 1812 Leadership Circle benefit every talented student and the dedicated professors who teach them on College Hill. Annual Fund gifts impact every area of students' lives on campus.

That investment continues to grow and multiply when those students leave College Hill. There's no limit to what they can accomplish with a Hamilton education behind them.

Please continue the legacy of support born on College Hill nearly 200 years ago by joining the 1812 Leadership Circle.
