Social Security: A Hit or Myth Proposition and the ABCDs of Medicare Alphabet Soup

Join Kurt Czarnowski '72 and Andy Peterson '72 for a practical guide to Social Security and Medicare. Kurt will provide an overview of the Social Security system, explaining how a benefit is computed, when someone can begin to collect and the impact of work in retirement. He will also cover spouses' benefits and the various strategies that people can employ to maximize their benefits. Andy will discuss Medicare — what’s included, what’s not and what  it will cost you.

2 p.m.  A Life in Politics with Tom '72 and Christie Vilsack K'72

Join U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack '72 and Christie Bell Vilsack K'72, a 2012 candidate for U.S. representative for Iowa's 4th congressional district, as they share insights from their lives in public office. Tom served two terms as governor of Iowa, and Christie worked to raise awaremess of issues around literacy.

Professor of Classics Carl Rubino, wine afficianado, will join the class to lead the wine tasting

9 p.m. World-Class Jazz, the Nicki Parrott Trio

Bassist/vocalist Nicki Parrott, with her endearing personality and engaging stage presence, returns to Hamilton. Awarded Best Jazz Vocal Album (2007 and 2008) by Swing Journal, Nicki performs regularly at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City where she was Les Paul’s bassist and vocalist for 10 years. She recently teamed up with pianist Rossanno Sportiello to create an intriguing program of tunes covering jazz, the Great American Songbook and a touch of classical music.
