Arbor Day Program with Clinton Elementary School

In March and April, the theme of "Trees in Our Community, Why Trees are Special to Me" was the subject for a poster and/or poetry project at our village school. 320 children submitted entries, and in recognition of their effort, the submissions were displayed at the school, and the entire school was then invited outside for a special tree planting (a 6 foot Colorado Blue Spruce) on the Clinton Elementary campus. The school dedicated the tree to a long-time teacher's aide who had recently passed away, and over a dozen children spoke at the ceremony, and the school choir sang songs. All the children who submitted art or poetry were also given a spruce seedling to take home to plant with their families. Hawkridge and his crews worked with the school groundskeeper to prepare the site and install the tree, and children from the school also participated in the activity.
