Comings and Goings

Catherine Miller, Senior Circulation Assistant, retired at the end of June after almost 17 years. She started as a part-time circulation assistant and quickly was promoted to senior circulation assistant. Catherine's skills and rapport with students and employees alike will be missed and we wish her a very happy retirement.

Sally Carman retired at the end of June after almost 13 years at the College. Sally started as a staff assistant in the Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center and became the administrator for the center in 1998. She was instrumental in developing this position and will miss all of the interesting people she has met over the years including those she has worked with. Sally plans on enjoying her many hobbies which include sewing, writing, dancing and most importantly, spending time with her six grandchildren and 10 step-grandchildren.

Nicholas Brockner joins Hamilton as system administrator of the Biology Computing Facility. He is a 2004 graduate of SUNY Utica/Rome and holds a bachelor of science in computer and information science. Nick has worked on the Hill as an intern on the Network Services Team for the past year where he worked on various projects on the Linux and Unix servers. Nick and his wife, Sarah, reside in Whitesboro.

Sherri Fidler-Rose has returned to the College as a custodian. Sherri formerly worked in this position from 1996 to 2003. Sherri and her husband, Archie, live in Madison, and we welcome her back to the College.

Monica Inzer has joined Hamilton as dean of admission and financial aid. She is a native of Sherrill, where her parents still reside. Monica was formerly dean of undergraduate admission and student financial services at Babson College in Wellesley, Mass.  Under her direction, Babson set records for applications and average SAT scores. Prior to her position at Babson, Monica was associate director and then director of admissions at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Mass., director of annual giving at Moses Brown School in Providence, R.I., director of the annual fund/associate director of development and director of financial aid/associate director of admissions at The Gunnery School in Washington, Conn., and assistant director of admissions at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. She is a graduate of Skidmore College.

James Maida joins the College as stock room assistant. He graduated from Frankfort-Schuyler High School and Herkimer County Community College. He was employed by Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare as an inventory control clerk, processing supplies and equipment for the Faxton campus. Jim has three children, James, Thomas and Jaclyn, and enjoys spending time at his camp in Old Forge and driving his antique car, a 1930 Model A Ford. (ext. 4406)

Beth Tegart comes to Hamilton as editorial assistant in publications. She received her undergraduate degree in English education from Daemen College in Buffalo and her master's in library information science from SUNY Geneseo. Beth has been a school or public librarian for the last 20 years. She is a free-lance storyteller, gardener, antique collector, avid reader and also reviews books for the professional journal, School Library Journal. Beth has a daughter, Kate, who is a teacher in Florida and a son, Mike, who is a junior at Hartwick. She and her husband, Bob, reside in Clinton. (ext. 4684)

Gemma Cowling, area coordinator, comes to Hamilton from Syracuse University where she spent two years as a graduate residence coordinator and received her master of science degree in higher education. She earend a bachelor's degree in English from SUNY Albany and also was a resident assistant there for three years. Gemma is a native Central New Yorker and enjoys skiing, reading and spending time with her family and friends.

Jason Topi, associate director, major gifts, is a graduate of Hamilton College and has been the associate director and then director of the annual fund at Colgate University for the last 3 ½ years. Prior to his positions at Colgate, he worked in the insurance and banking industries. Jason and his wife Sharon reside in Clinton with their two children, Andrew and Caitlin.

New Responsibilities

Mike Sawanec, formerly a campus safety officer, is now a patrol supervisor.

Amy James is now serving as coordinator, international services, in the Dean of Students Office. She formerly served at coordinator, Associated Colleges in China program for the past 3 1/2 years.

Dana Hubbard has taken over the position of coordinator, Associated Colleges in China program. Prior to this position, Dana worked as the language center coordinator/technologist and also served as a Help Desk support specialist with ITS.

Sharon Topi has taken over the position of administrator in the Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center. Prior to this position, Sharon worked in the library as a science library assistant and circulation assistant.
