Comings and Goings

Barbara Britt-Hysell comes to Hamilton as English language instruction (ELI) coordinator. She has worked with Hamilton students in the past as a writing tutor and ESL tutor. She also designed a bi-monthly program to incorporate the HEOP multicultural and ESL students into the campus community through cultural forums and social activities. Britt received a bachelor's in English with an education minor from Framingham State College and has extensive experience as an educator and tutor. Britt and her husband, Jon '72 (director of alumni programs), have three children, Joe, Julia '04 and Nora. (bbritthy, ext. 4150)

Elizabeth Brotherton, circulation assistant, comes to Burke Library with several years of customer service experience at Metropolitan Life. Beth also worked in the human services field at ARC and the Charles T. Sitrin Home. Beth received an associate's degree in liberal arts from Cazenovia College and hopes to continue her education at Hamilton. Beth just finished writing and editing a children's story titled Nettie Lee Crinkles and the Paisley Moon. She is also researching a future novel about Webster Wagner, the inventor of the sleeping and palace cars, who was a New York State senator from Montgomery County in the late 1800s. Stephen Hale, horticultural grounds worker, received his associate's degree in horticulture and landscape management from SUNY Morrisville where he was also employed as a work study student in the grounds department. He took first place in the Mid-Atlantic Horticultural Competition held in Canada in 2003. Steve also worked as a bus driver for the Clinton schools and Coach USA. He is a member of the Clinton Fire Department and will soon be a member of Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Joe Hoying, assistant director, annual giving, is no stranger to Hamilton and not-for-profit organizations. He has been instrumental in coordinating blood drives as account manager with the American Red Cross. Joe lives in New Hartford with his wife, Mary (senior assistant to the vice president, communications and development), and son, Phillip. He enjoys golf, camping, kayaking and home remodeling. Erika Klar, assistant director, annual giving, returns to the central New York area after an absence of more than 10 years. After receiving her bachelor's degree from Bryn Mawr with a double major in French and Russian, Erika worked as development director for the YWCA in Wilmington, Del., and was alumni relations manager for a New York City-based international law firm. Karol Sykes, student services assistant, joins the Office of the Registrar to process transcript requests, maintain student information and respond to requests from students, parents, faculty and other campus offices. Karol has been a receptionist for a travel agency and a doctor's office and worked temporarily in several offices at Hamilton. Karol is a long-time quilter and supports Project Linus, an organization that inspires blanket- makers to comfort children in need. (ksykes, ext. 4639)
