Overview
For the first time in school history, a Hamilton College team will find out what it's like to defend a national championship. That team is the 2009 women's lacrosse program. Twenty-one young women made history on May 18, 2008, when Hamilton dominated the reigning NCAA Division III champions -- Franklin & Marshall College -- by a 13-6 score in a rain-soaked tournament title game at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. The Continentals' amazing run to the championship was no fluke. Earlier in the tournament, Hamilton knocked off traditional powerhouse programs Middlebury College and Salisbury University. The Continentals finished their memorable season with a 21-1 mark and set a team record with those 21 victories. Hamilton also won its second straight Liberty League regular season and tournament crowns.
