Club Sports 2009-2010The Physical Education Department supports the following club programs: Alpine Skiing, Cycling, Equestrian, Fencing, Ultimate Frisbee, Women's Golf, Nordic Skiing, Women's and Men's Rugby, Sailing, Tae Kwon Do, Ice Hockey, Curling and Water Polo. Alpine SkiingKelsey Hiscano (khiscano@hamilton.edu)Nathan Burbank (nburbank@hamilton.edu) Sarah Kelley (skelley@hamilton.edu) The Alpine Ski Team is a coed club sport that currently has 23 members. The team practices twice a week at Labrador Mountain, roughly an hour away from campus. Wednesday nights are dedicated to Giant Slalom and Thursday nights are reserved for Slalom. The team practices and races with the supervision of the Labrador Racing Staff. The team races about seven times a year, beginning in the middle of January, in conjunction with the United Ski and Snowboard Association. CyclingMcKayla Dunfey mdunfey@hamilton.eduTodd Rayne, trayne@hamilton.edu Equestrian TeamHathaway Burden, hburden@hamilton.eduThe Equestrian Team is a coed club sport currently with 15 members. Practices are held four days a week at Whisper Wind Equestrian Center, about 20 minutes from campus. The team competes in 8 horse shows a year and is part of the national Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. No experience is required in order to join. Fencing TeamWill Pigott wpigott@hamilton.eduThe Fencing Team is a coed club sport that currently has 13 members. The team practices Monday through Thursday from 4-6 PM in one of the old squash courts on the second floor of the Alumni Gym. Although not part of a larger organization, the Fencing Team competes against other schools such as Hobart and William Smith College, RPI and Colgate in interscholastic tournaments. No experience is required in order to join the team. Ultimate FrisbeeBrandon Kline bkline@hamilton.eduThe Ultimate Frisbee Team is a coed, self-coached club sport with 40 members. In the fall the team practices four days a week on the baseball field and in the spring as often as possible, depending on field conditions. The team plays against colleges such as Colgate, Clarkson, St. Lawrence, RIT, RPI, ESU, UVM, Green Mountain College, Buffalo, Alfred, UCONN and Cornell. The team plays in a few large tournaments each semester. Women's GolfCheryl Morgan, cmorgan@hamilton.eduThe Women's Golf Team currently has 5 members. The team practices once a week at a local driving range, and a second time on the 9-hole course on campus. The team competes in a number of tournaments against schools such as Mt. Holyoke and Williams. The team's faculty liaison is Cheryl Morgan, a Hamilton Professor in the French Department. Nordic SkiingMcKayla Dunfey mdunfey@hamilton.eduThe Nordic Ski Team is a coed club sport that currently has 20 members. The team practices three afternoons a week either in the Glen, on Hamilton's golf course or other nearby locations. The team is a member of the Mideast Conference of the United Ski and Snowboard Association and competes in a number of races each season. Students of all experience levels are welcome though experience is encouraged. This past season the women's team tied for first place in the division's overall standings. No experience is needed and the majority of students joining the team have no prior knowledge of the game. Depending on field conditions, the team practices Monday through Friday on Minor Field from 4 - 6 PM. The team is part of the New York State Rugby Conference in West Division II, competing against Brockport SUNY, Fredonia SUNY, Cortland SUNY, Geneseo SUNY, and Buffalo State SUNY. Although in the process of looking for a coach, the team is currently self-coached. Women's Men's RugbyAlex Gross, agross@hamilton.eduColden Prime, cprime@hamilton.edu Men's Rugby is currently the largest club sport with 57 members. Practices are held Monday through Friday from 4-6 PM on Minor Field. The team competes in the New York State Rugby Union, a branch of USA Rugby. The team is led by a very dedicated and experienced Coach, Bradley Jones. The team plays in both the fall and spring though nationals are held in the spring. No experience is required to join. The team went undefeated this fall and is headed for Nationals in the spring. SailingThe Hamilton College Sailing Team competes in the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association in both the fall and spring seasons in both dinghy and keelboat regattas. Regattas are most often single day trips or weekend overnights in college dormitories or member residences. The team also periodically practices at the Cedar Point Yacht Club and competes in the Eckerd College Intersectional in Saint Petersberg, Florida. Tae Kwon DoKate Zavin kzavin@hamilton.eduGabe Hage ghage@hamilton.edu The Tae Kwon Do Team is a coed club sport currently with 17 members. The team practices Tuesdays on campus and Saturdays at Y.J. George's Tae Kwon Do school in New Hartford. The team attends competitions with the SUNY schools and other Tae Kwon Do schools in the area. No experience is needed in order to the join.
