Staring at the computer screen in front of him, Max Williams ’12 rotates a complex MRI image. He opens up the cross sections, targeting the colored area and moving “slices” of the image to better see the specific piece he wants. What is all this technology used to analyze? A chicken embryo’s face, of course! Williams is spending the summer at the Birth Defects Research Lab at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle working to set new parameters for the embryonic development of chickens. Hamilton’s Scott Regan ’11 was fortunate enough to find, through HamNet, a summer internship in a field that interests him. ArtCenter/South Florida (ACSF), located in Miami Beach, describes itself as “an access point for artists, curators, and visitors alike. ACSF is a major cultural institution that offers the community exhibitions for up-and-coming visual artists and educational programs in a wide variety of media for many different age groups and skill levels. This summer, Hamilton’s Sarah Perdomo ’12 will be joining the ArtCenter/South Florida team as a teaching assistant at one of the institution’s summer education programs. More ...

Five Hamilton students were recently given the opportunity to experience a week in the life of a medical resident at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, New York. Sam Cho ’10, Thomas Coppola ’10, James Langan ’10, Sven Oman ’10 and Kendra Wulczyn ’10 took part in the Health Experience Learning Program (HELP) from January 11 to 15. This summer, Bristol Scholarship winner Sarah Cryer ’10 gained medical experience with practicing gynecologic oncologist and pelvic surgeon Dr. Elizabeth Poynor. Following her completion of surgical training at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, Dr. Poynor decided to work exclusively in practices dedicated to the advancement of women’s health issues. The second class of the Hamilton Alliance for Nonprofit Strategic Advancement (HANSA) has been selected and the four student program fellows have begun work with their agencies. The HANSA program, launched in 2008, partners with non-profit agencies in the Mohawk Valley on specific projects and staffs the agencies with student fellows interested in pursuing non-profit leadership roles.
