"But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for seeI am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people..." --Luke 2:10

The Beauty of the Season

Christmas means so many things to me: joy, friendship, comfort, and peace. In addition to these standards feelings of goodwill, however, music is also an essential part of my Christmas celebrations. My family has always been musical, and we have a tradition of playing carols together each Christmas Eve. We gather around the piano, my mother playing, and we each contribute to the informal concert through various instruments and voices. The hour or two that we spend making music together in that glittering evening full of anticipation is more precious to me than the eager and sometimes frantic quality of Christmas morning. It gives us a chance to pause in the midst of our preparations, and allows us to reflect on the beauty of the season and how fortunate we are to be surrounded with loving family and friends. Christmas is such a wonderful time to come together and take a break from the expectations of the rest of the year. I plan to continue making music on Christmas Eve for the rest of my life!
