ACC STARTALK Teachers Program:

ACC-CLASS K-12 Chinese Language Teachers Program for Non-Native Speakers

This is a two-week Chinese residential language program which offers development workshops for pre-service and in-service K-16 non-native Chinese language teachers. The program takes place on Hamilton College's campus during the summer. The program's overarching goal is to provide professional development opportunities in language and pedagogy.

By the end of the program, participants will improve their Chinese language proficiency, design and deliver standards-based thematic units. They will develop skills needed to properly align curriculum, instruction and assessment; and integrate culture, content, and technology into their teaching practices. Additionally, participants will gain the skills needed to carry out instruction in the target language; use task-based teaching templates to create meaningful lessons and activities for students; and assess students' performance ability in an integrative way.

Those who participate in the 2013 Summer STARTALK program will receive 10 complimentary weekly sessions with our Distance Learning Center beginning in mid September.  Participants will interact with our native Chinese teachers in Beijing, through Skype, to further increase their proficiency levels and build upon what they have learned during the summer program. 

 

Program Cost

All accepted participants will receive a full scholarship to cover the cost of the program (including program tuition, meals and lodging, and domestic transportation to campus).  However, once accepted into the program, a $50 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your place in the program.
