Disability Services
Hamilton College is committed to providing equal opportunity and access to qualified students with disabilities, and offers numerous support services. Although the College does not have a specialized program for students with disabilities, Allen Harrison, Associate Dean for Diversity and Accessibility, coordinates individualized accommodations and support services for any student who has a documented need.

Students seeking special arrangements due to a disability should provide the office with a recent evaluation conducted by a specialist in the appropriate field. It should include a specific diagnosis, information regarding onset, longevity and severity of symptoms, and information on how the disability and/or related medications and treatments interfere or limit any major life activity including participation in the courses, programs and activities of the college; and recommended accommodations.

Using this information, in consultation with the student, his or her professors and, if necessary, other qualified experts, the office will help the student to develop a system of support services that are appropriate to the student's needs. Requests for special arrangements should be made well in advance of the time they will be needed.

An awareness of federal laws and Hamilton College policies and procedures is an important component of our community effort to support students with disabilities. Additionally, understanding the role that faculty members have in facilitating reasonable accommodations and providing other assistance is equally significant.
