Social Experience
NOTE: The information on this page
is fully up-to-date and accurate for
the 2006-2007 academic year.
The social and extracurricular activities on a campus play an important part in making a more complete educational experience, and technology can play an important role in creating and managing these social communities. Therefore, it is important to understand and appreciate the tools that facilitate electronic communities on campus, allowing for greater communication, interaction, and integration within the broad campus milieu.
Over 97% of our students have their own computer connected to the campus network. What is the ratio of public access computers to undergraduate enrollment? College computers are accessible to students in computer labs and facilities maintained by Information Technology Services and academic departments. Close faculty/student interaction is a hallmark of an education at Hamilton, and one of the ways that this work is facilitated is by the use of technological tools. This is supported by a ratio of students to computers accessible to students of approximately 3 to 1. What percentage of students use e-mail and other software applications on a regular basis? All students use e-mail on a regular basis, either from their own machine or through computers accessible to students in computer labs and facilities around campus. In addition, the My Hamilton portal allows students to customize their information needs. Does the campus allow personal Web pages? Yes, students are provided with space on the campus web server, as well as network storage space that can be used to transfer or back up files. Is contact information for students, faculty, and staff readily accessible electronically? Yes, the campus web site contains searchable directories for students and all college employees. The directories contain office locations, e-mail addresses, and telephone numbers. Is there a campus code of behavior for use of computing and information resources? Yes, members of the Hamilton community are expected to follow the guidelines for appropriate use of computing, the network, and related resources. These guidelines are reviewed annually by the Committee on Information Technology. What social activities and services are available over the Web? Information about college events, discussion forums and many other activities is accessible through our web site and through our campus mass e-mail lists. Are there Web sites for student organizations and clubs, and are these linked to the campus home page? Yes, all student organizations have a web site. Many use this as a way to keep their members informed of activities. Academic Experience Administrative Experience Requirements, Services & Costs Top of Page Guide to Information Technology Home |
