Computer Lectern Instructions

General Troubleshooting Tips

  • To plug a laptop computer into the data projector, use the connections on the side of the lectern for audio and video.
  • If a file appears as a blank icon, or the computer does not know how to open it, check to make sure the file has the correct three-letter extension for the file type; if it does not, add it. (MS Word file = .doc, MS PowerPoint file = .ppt, QuickTime file = .mov, etc)
  • If the computer's screen is not being projected on the data projector, press the "Input" button on the projector's remote control until the correct image appears. There are three different possible inputs: Input 1 - Lectern Mac/PC; Input 2 - Laptop; Input 3 - VCR/DVD
  • If you cannot hear the audio, first try using the remote to turn up the volume. If you still cannot hear it, find the gray box in the lectern cabinet marked "Audio Switch", and press the button that corresponds to the computer you are using: Mac, PC, or Laptop.
  • To switch between the Macintosh and PC computers in the lectern, press the button on the top of the gray & white switch in the lectern. There will be a brief delay while it switches, so be patient. However, if it does not respond after 1 minute, restart the computer.
  • To restart the computer, look at the computer's front cover. There should be a large button and a small one; press the smaller one. You may need a pen, as it will be recessed.
  • If the monitor or mouse are not responding, check the main power plug to the wall. If loose, unplug the cord, then replug it. If this does not solve the problem, restart the computer.
  • If the network is not responding, or you cannot see the network, check that the network cable is properly plugged into the wall. If this does not solve the problem, restart the computer.

Please do not unplug or switch any cables leading from the lectern to the wall or within the lectern plugged into the computers themselves.

ITS will be happy to instruct you on the use of the lectern systems. Please call x4877 if you wish to make an appointment.
