October is Cyber Security Awareness Month

Having good cyber security is essential to protecting your computer, information, and identity.

To ensure that you are safe from computing threats, make sure to follow these steps:

  1. Have up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spyware on your computer (for both Mac and Windows) - see information below.
  2. NEVER give out your passwords, especially to anyone who requests it over the Internet.
  3. Be aware of Internet phishing schemes that attempt to obtain personal information. For more information, visit: http://www.hamilton.edu/college/its/network_services/Security/phishing.html.

As of September 14th, as a cost saving measure, Hamilton disabled Sophos updates to students. If you still have Sophos on your personal computer, it is out-of-date and you run the risk of getting a virus. Please note, Hamilton College requires all personal computers to have up-to-date anti-virus software installed. Failure to do so can result in the loss of connectivity to the Hamilton network. Please click on the link below to get free anti-virus software (AVG for Windows and iAnti-virus for Macs) that is fully supported by the ITS Help Desk.

If you have any questions about how to remove Sophos or install the free supported anti-virus software please call the Help Desk at 859-4181. The Help Desk is open Monday-Friday 8:30am to 10pm and Saturday-Sunday 10am to 10pm.
