Hope House

"Established in 1992, Hope House served 72,278 meals in 2004. The hungry and homeless of the inner-city Utica area have come to rely upon at least one daily meal at Hope House. They have also provided countless hours of safe haven from the streets for the people who are their guests, many of whom feel that they come to Hope House to be with "Family". In many instances, Hope House constitutes their only stable and caring environment. They also help our guests find the other resources in the community which they may need to make their lives bearable. They allow our premises to be used for health screenings as well.

The People who come to Hope House for food and for some serenity are just like you and me, except that they do not have the resources with which to provide meals for themselves. Some are working poor; some are elderly who have outlived the buying power of their pensions; some live where there are no cooking facilities; some simply are unable to adequately conduct their own lives. Hope House is there for them, seven days a week, including weekends and holidays.

Volunteers constitue the backbone of daily operations. Meals are all prepared by volunteers; volunteers serve the food and clean up after each meal; volunteer Day Managers provide the supervision for all daily food service operations. In short, they use between 75 and 100 volunteers at Hope House each week. There are over 500 volunteers on the "active" roster.

Hope House's support comes primarily from churches and individual donors. They have some grants, for which they are most grateful, but their foundation is made firm by the people who care about our ministry and about the guests whom we serve."

Clinton Youth Group

Clinton Youth Group is a newly formed youth group for middle and high school kids of any religion.  Volunteers help plan and participate in events for the group.  Contact Clare Browne (cbrowne) for more information.

Trust Treat

On Halloween evening, you will have the opportunity to volunteer to lead groups of children around trick-or-treating, or to decorate and hand out candy in your residence hall, private society, or with various campus organizations.  Do not miss the opportunity to dress up in costume like a kid again, to make Halloween special for some young people, and to carry on the tradition of remembering the spirit of Eric Trust.  We cannot do it without you!

Any questions?

If you have any questions, feel free to contact this year's co-chair Clare Browne (cbrowne), or your friendly neighborhood priest - Fr. Croghan (jcroghan).
