Hamilton College invites applicants for the position of Director, Alumni Relations. Founded in 1793, Hamilton is a highly selective liberal arts college and a national leader in teaching effective writing and persuasive speaking. The ideal Director will be an energetic, collaborative, competitive, well-organized leader who will join a distinguished institutional advancement program. Hamilton alumni are among the most devoted anywhere, and their loyalty has helped the College in a myriad of ways. This is a full time, benefited, administrative position with an immediate start date.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Annual Giving and Alumni Relations, this senior member of the Office of Communications and Development will provide leadership, direction and management for programs and initiatives designed to foster mutually supportive relationships between the College and its alumni and friends. This is a highly visible position and the successful candidate must demonstrate a considerable level of comfort with the President, members of the Board of Trustees, the Alumni Council, faculty and senior college administrators.

The Director of Alumni Relations will have significant contact with a diverse and highly educated pool of volunteers and colleagues and will directly supervise a team of two administrators and two support staff responsible for the Alumni Council, on campus special events (including Reunions, Fallcoming, Volunteer Weekend and Family Weekend), a national schedule of over 140 regional alumni association events, alumni education and travel and the alumni web presence. Hamilton’s Office of Alumni Relations and its Office of Annual Giving work in close collaboration in support of the College’s mission and strategic goals.

The Director will directly support the President of the Hamilton Alumni Association and the Executive Committee of the Alumni Council and work closely with trustees, senior development officers, including the Directors of Annual Giving, Principal Gifts, and Major Gifts, and have frequent contact with other college administrators, faculty, students and fellow alumni directors via the Northeast Alumni Relations (NEAR) collaborative. The Director will attend the Vice President’s bi-weekly meetings. Travel (3-5 days/month primarily for volunteer management, event staffing and stewardship) and occasional weekend and evening work are required.

A Bachelor’s degree is required and five to seven years of successful, progressively responsible managerial experience, preferably at a highly selective, private college; strong analytical skills and a comfort with technology and statistical data analysis; and demonstrated management (organizational and volunteer) experience. Must also demonstrate innovative and strategic thinking; strong budget management skills; a willingness to be a big-picture thinker while also being a detail-oriented, hands-on manager; a strong commitment to customer service; excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; and outstanding planning, team-building and leadership ability. Candidates should demonstrate commitment to and appreciation of the mission of a small liberal arts college. Preference will be given to Hamilton/Kirkland alumni/ae.
