Campus Safety ServicesEmergency Medical ResponseAll patrol officers are trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and first aid. The Campus Safety Department also enjoys a cooperative working relationship with Hamilton College EMS (HCEMS) and Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps (COCVAC).Fire SafetyConsiderable emphasis is placed on fire safety at Hamilton. All residence facilities are equipped with fire and smoke detector equipment that relays an emergency signal to Campus Safety if a problem is detected. Residence Life policies governing student behavior concerning fire safety are strictly enforced. Cooking in areas other than authorized kitchens is prohibited. Toaster ovens and other appliances with open coils are forbidden in all residence facilities. An ongoing effort is made to encourage students to evaluate their environment and take reasonable precautions to ensure their safety. Campus Safety conducts fire drills throughout the year. A fire alarm is an order to vacate the building. You should familiarize yourself with evacuation procedures and follow directions of RA staff and campus safety officers. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action. Personal Safety EscortsFrom dusk to dawn, personal safety escorts from and to any on-campus location are provided to members of the campus community. Escorts will be completed via vehicle or foot patrol.Motor Vehicle AssistanceUpon request, the Campus Safety Department assists motorists on campus with disabled vehicles. A portable battery pack, can be loaned (in exchange for a valid form of identification) to members of the campus community to jump start their vehicle.Parking PermitsAll vehicles on campus must be registered with the Campus Safety Department. Parking permits may be obtained at the department office during business hours. Visitors may obtain short term parking permits for parking privileges on campus. For a more complete listing of university parking regulations see the Hamilton College Parking Handbook.Student Room LockoutsThe department will assist students who locked themselves out of their residence room. This service is provided free for the first time, with succeeding lockouts being assessed a $10.00 fee.Emergency TelephonesThe Blue Light Emergency Telephone System is a series of telephone boxes strategically located throughout campus to provide assistance to anyone in distress.Overhead blue lights identify the telephones. When the receiver is lifted they automatically dial into the Campus Safety Department office, where an officer will be dispatched to provide assistance. Additionally, courtesy telephones are located outside the main entrance to each residence hall. These provide telephone access for both emergency and non-emergency contact to any on campus extension. Lost and FoundThe department maintains a lost and found service. If you find any property, please take it to the department office. If you have lost any property, contact Campus Safety to determine if it has been turned in.Medical TransportationThe department provides non-emergency transportation to and from the Health Center, classes and students' on campus residences. Approval for this service is granted by the Health Center or Athletic Training Staffs. |
