About our conference theme: The Challenge of Change
Information Technology is fundamentally linked to change.
Change can be: disorienting, anxiety producing, exhilarating, stressful, scary, risky, etc.
On our campuses we sometimes feel we are being asked to do more with less or more with the same, the same with less, etc. Expectations continue to rise as IT is recognized as a fundamental enabler of new ways of thinking, possible efficiencies, and new ways of teaching and learning.
When presented with this situation some people instinctively retreat to the comfort of what they already do, and try to just work harder. Others just try to keep their heads down and stay below the radar. A third approach might be counterintuitive and involve considering changing the way we do things, with associated risks and uncertainty. Can we become campus leaders in "doing things differently"?
This might include:
Eliminating processes rather than automating them
Collaborating/ partnering with others on and off campus
Outsourcing things we now do ourselves
Reorganizing to maximize the impact of staff
Shortening the hiring/replacement process
Finding new ways of evaluating what we do
New ways of providing training
New ways of solving technology problems
