The COOP (Community Outreach & Opportunity Project) is Hamilton's center for community service, bringing together HAVOC volunteer sites, Alternative Spring Break trips, USE preorientation week and other service initiatives.
WHAT IS CSI?
Not what you think! The COOP Service Internship Program is designed for those students who have work study as part of their financial aid package. Instead of working a campus job, you will be set up with a paid internship in a nonprofit office over your first four semesters.
WHAT WILL I DO IN CSI?
CSI participants begin their service once the school year begins. You'll have a significant service experience with one of our key community partner nonprofits. By your fourth semester, you'll be contributing in a major way to your community partner agency.
CSI interns will work with an administrator in a local non-profit organization who will orient you to the agency and supervise your work, but will also mentor you in nonprofit administration and direct service. You'll also be assigned a campus mentor from the COOP to meet in one-on-one sessions to help guide your internship experience.
You'll become part of a tight-knit student CSI group. Part of your internship stipend covers time spent in reflection sessions with your CSI cohort. Plus, you'll become a leader in various service initiatives of the COOP.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR CSI?
Eight first-year students from the Class of 2013 will be accepted, with preference given to students who have work-study as part of their financial aid package. Preference will also be given to students who have demonstrated some commitment to community service during high school.
HOW DO I APPLY?
Email a brief letter of interest to Amy James, Director of Outreach & Orientation, at ajames@hamilton.eduor call the COOP at 315-859-4016. You will receive an application to fill out and return, and will be notified by the end of June if you are accepted.
