Student PerspectivesWHY DO YOU VOLUNTEER?Sara Kayeum, '12 "By being at Hamilton, I feel very blessed with the opportunity to receive such a great education. However, I think that with that priviledge comes a responsibility to use what I have been given to make a difference in my community--whether it be Clinton, NY or Boston, MA."
"I volunteer for my heart; I volunteer for my soul; I volunteer for the smiles of those I help." Elijah LaChance, '10 "I volunteer because I believe in the importance of connecting with other individuals, especially those who need the help of a fellow human being. Futhermore, I wish to instill the value of compassion as a fundamental principle in my life and cultivate a lifetime of service." Benjamin Van Arnam, '09 WHY DO YOU VOLUNTEER WITH YOUR SITE?"I volunteer for this site, becuase I wanted to continue to volunteer services throughout my college experience. I've taken piano lessons for over eight years and I think teaching other children who might not have the opportunity to learn is fun, rewarding way to give back." Sara Kayeum, '12 "It's a long term project for the Gamma Xi sorority. We think the Loretto Centr is an ideal site for us because the elderly are so often marginalized by society. Many of us have formed bonds with the residents at Loretto Center." Kristen Randolph, '11 "The Jazz Ensemble performed there and I was struck by the enthusiasm of the kids there to see us and hear us. They seemed desperate for any contact with the outside world." Elijah LaChance, '10 "I think that food salvage is both environmentally friendly and important in the community. It is a simple way to make a difference." Eliese Herzl-Betz, '12 |
