How to Make an Appointment

Appointments can be made by calling the Counseling Center at x4340 or by stopping by the Counseling Center office on the second floor of the Health Center. Sue Hill, the Office Assistant, can schedule an appointment for a student with any of the three professional therapists in the office.

Individual Counseling

Many students choose to seek assistance by meeting with a counselor on a one-to-one basis. This usually occurs weekly although may be negotiated with each counselor. Commonly presented concerns are: relationship issues (parents, family, roommates, significant others), anxiety, depression, eating disorders, alcohol and other substance use issues, loss and grief, sexual orientation, self-esteem and thoughts of suicide.

In addition to the specific problem a student might encounter, we know college is a time of significant transition. Developmental issues and challenges are anticipated and promote growth. The office also assists students in negotiating these issues.

Group Counseling

Counseling in groups can be an effective and powerful format for college students. Different counseling groups are offered from time to time through the Counseling Center. These include various support groups, specific topic psycho-educational groups and Group Therapy.

Couples Counseling

We offer couples counseling for those students who request assistance in managing intimate relationship issues.

Nutrition Counseling

While at college students experience many changes in lifestyle, exercise levels, eating habits, demands of athletics, and concerns about body image. Nutrition counseling is available to address these concerns. Any student wishing to make an appointment with the Dietitian should call the Counseling Center at x4340.  A one hour nutrition counseling session, and if needed, a half hour follow-up appointment are free of charge. We can assist students in locating additional nutrition counseling services if needed.

Workshops

Professional staff from the Counseling Center are available to provide workshops on a variety of areas. The workshops are typically skill-building with a focus on providing information to assist students in negotiating their daily lives. Some workshops might include: body image issues, alcohol and substance use/abuse education, managing anxiety and/or depression, sexual orientation issues, time management, stress reduction and test anxiety.

Consultation and Outreach

We are available to consult with faculty, staff, parents, or students who may be concerned about a student. Persons concerned about a student are urged to contact our office for consultation.
