AN OVERVIEW

Photo of the Chapel
At no time since its founding in 1812 has the traditional strength of Hamilton College been more vital to its future. People who know how to learn and how to communicate their knowledge are increasingly rare. College graduates who can reason, speak and listen well, who can write and read with a critical eye, are highly valued in boardrooms, courtrooms, operating rooms, classrooms, and just about everywhere else. Producing them is Hamilton's specialty. It's what distinguishes us from the majority of other colleges. In a recent magazine survey of higher education, only two liberal arts colleges were cited for excellence in the teaching of writing.  Hamilton was one of them. It is on this kind of recognition that our reputation is founded. But we have more building to do.
