Desktop Integration Services is excited to introduce the newest member of our team, Geoff Hale. Geoff
joined ITS on December 3, 2012 in the position of Desktop Systems Administrator. He is a 2012 graduate
of Utica College, earning his degree in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance, and comes to us from
Northland Communications where he was an IT Specialist.

If you're looking to make the move from that old clunker Windows XP box that's been sitting in your
den for something newer and shinier, I have good news. The PC is going through a transformation and
right now there are some fantastic deals to be had on some really new and innovative hardware. But
you say… there's a problem. I don't know how I feel about this Windows 8 thing. You can't put
your finger on it, but you're not sure if you like it.

| HillConnect "Winter Cleaning" - Jesse Thomas |
Google recently announced an upcoming "winter cleaning," which will result in a minor change to the HillConnect calendar. The appointment slots feature is scheduled to be discontinued on Jan. 4, 2013 and for users with personal Gmail accounts that sync with their mobile device, Google Sync is going to be discontinued on Jan. 30, in favor of new sync methods (IMAP, CalDAV & CardDAV) and mobile apps. | Events Calendar to be Upgraded - Maureen Scoones |
Beginning on January 10, 2013, you will see a new look and be able to use new features in our Events Calendar. The new calendar will become fully operational on Monday, January 14, 2013. Sign up for one of the demonstrations that will be held the week of January 14 to introduce employees to the new look and features.

There will be another opportunity to see a demonstration of document management system on Wednesday, January 9 and Thursday, January 10. Such electronic systems will allow us to capture, manage and modify, centrally store, preserve, and deliver content and documents related to organizational processes. This Winter, Beware of Cold Callers - Especially Those Claiming Your Computer Has a Virus

The scam always starts the same way: the phone rings at someone's home, the caller asks for the head of the household, quoting their name and address before saying "I'm calling for Microsoft. We've had a report from your Internet service provider of serious virus problems from your computer." Dire forecasts are made that if the problem is not solved, the computer will become unusable. Although ITS has not yet determined the deployment schedule of Windows 8, if you received a new computer over the holidays that is configured with Windows 8, you may want to learn more. A good start is with Ryan's article New Computer This Christmas? Here's How to get around in Windows 8.
