Parting is such sweet sorrow

December 9, 2010   It's amazing how fast time flies by. It feels like just a few days ago that I first arrived on campus, and now the first half of my sophomore year is coming to a close. I had my last class of the semester earlier today, and all that lies between me and winter break is that oh-so-wonderful finals week. For once, I'm actually wishing finals week was longer. (No, I'm not a masochist).

My friend Cliff is heading to China next semester, and because we live on opposite coasts, odds are I won't see him again until August. It's pretty bitter-sweet. I think it's so awesome that he gets to go to live in China basically until the fall, but of course my friends and I are going to miss him. What's amazing though is how he's got this opportunity already. He's only been studying Chinese for a year-and-a-half, and he's already got a good enough grasp on the language  to be able to live there for a few months. And he'll be speaking basically only Mandarin while he's there. Talk about intense! But hey, in a few months we'll all be reunited, and I'm sure he'll have a helluva time until then!

Traveling to another part of the world isn't an opportunity that comes around every day. My friends and I are just going to have to get used to the empty room down the hall. Have a great time Cliff! We're gonna miss you, man!
