It's Good to Be Back!

January 23, 2013

I spent the past semester in Washington, D.C. Having been off campus for the whole semester, it is wonderful to be back on campus seeing the familiar faces of my classmates and professors. I can’t believe I am a second semester junior. Sometimes on my admission tours, I have to pause and think about my class year - haha.

Yesterday was the first day of classes. I had my photography class and my intense government course titled Poverty and Development. Today I will be going to my other government course, International Political Economy, and my Anthropology class, African Diaspora in Europe. My classes seem really interesting so I will be writing more on those experiences in the near future.

While I was away from Hamilton, some things changed and some things stayed the same. Last year’s senior class graduated, which means a whole new first-year class came this fall. Though I do not know many of them, many members of the class of 2016 have been extremely friendly and willing to reach out. I find that the overall community has not changed in terms of friendliness, but there are many new faces!

Another change is the dining experience here at Hamilton. We still have the delicious sandwiches, the wonderful salad bar, sushi, but Commons Dining Hall now makes their own pasta and serves flatbread pizzas. I was thoroughly impressed with these changes. Secondly, McEwen Dining Hall has a food station titled Global Street Foods, which changes by the day. Today’s option was Mediterranean, which consisted of falafels and grilled lamb and chicken.

I’ve been overwhelmed by nostalgia and happiness since coming back to Hamilton. I hope it stays this way for a while!
