February 5, 2009 Yesterday I was walking towards the science center, sipping on my Opus coffee, and listening to some Taylor Swift, when I noticed a large sheet of almost frozen water in front of Dunham Residence Hall. It seemed a tad bit peculiar that there would be such a large sheet of water in a perfect rectangle outside…so I started asking around. Apparently, us Hamiltonians decided it would be fun to have a place to ice skate outside. Although we’re able to use the ice skating rink on campus whenever we want, somehow being outside just sounded more exciting. So…we got a bit of funding and voila…ice skating.
I’m still on the fence when it comes to how I plan to take advantage of this large sheet of ice. Will I actually attempt to ice skate outside… in public? Actually the more appropriate question is will I actually attempt to ice skate. While I’m not entirely certain I will make use of this ice sheet, I know many people on campus who are positively ecstatic about it. Just goes to show that if you have an idea, feel free to present it. If someone can get funding for outdoor ice skating, think what else you could do!
