This past weekend, early decision applicants at Hamilton find out whether they were accepted or not to Hamilton. So, first of all, let me say congratulations to the newest members of the Hamilton community! I can’t wait to see you all on the Hill next year!
I remember waiting for my early admission decision to Hamilton like it was yesterday. My twin brother had also applied early decision to his top choice school, but had found out on Saturday, while I had to wait until Monday night at 8 PM. That was one of the most stressful weekends for my family. On the one hand, everyone was happy because my brother got into his school, but on the other hand I still did not know what my fate would be. I decided to apply early decision to Hamilton for a variety of reasons. I’m sure I would have been happy at any other school on my list, but Hamilton really stood out to me. It was a perfect balance between the arts and sciences and I really liked our emphasis on writing and speaking. Also, the people were so friendly the two times I came to visit before I applied and it just felt right from the moment I stepped foot on campus.
On the day that the decision came out, it felt like I had to wait forever. I remember starting at 7 o’clock PM, I checked my watch every two minutes. Then, about five minutes before the decisions came out, I went into my room and locked the door. I didn’t want anyone to peek over my shoulder before I found out! I refreshed the page until it said “View Your Decision” and all I saw was “Congratulations!” before I burst into tears.
Of course, with any college admission comes rejection. For those of you who were deferred or denied, do not worry! You WILL get in to a college that's a great fit for you. Somehow, things always seem to work themselves out.
So, no matter what the decision letter said, I know all of you are going to be doing amazing things no matter where you wind up at school. It’s a long process and to those of you who are finished - Congrats again! It’s an exciting time in your life, so enjoy it! And to those of you who have to wait a little longer to figure out where you're going to school- you can do it! You’re so close and college is going to be awesome, regardless of where you go.
