IT'S FREEZING UP HERE.

February 22, 2010   There are definitely many days when I wish that Hamilton could be transplanted to Southern California. Unfortunately, this will never happen so I must face the reality.

For all of you wonderful prospective students who live in Florida, Arizona or Texas — 1. I envy you 2. It's not THAT bad up here.

So what is the trick to surviving the cold? DRESS FOR WINTER!

Over winter break, I would wake up in the mornings and walk downstairs in a pair of boxer shorts and a tank top. When I would complain to my mom that I was cold, she would say: "I don't care if you are inside! It is winter! Put some pants and a sweatshirt on!"

The same applies at Hamilton — or anywhere for that matter. While the over-heated dorms allow a lot of Hamilton students to walk around the hallways in summer clothing, the weather outside isn't as forgiving. If it is 10 degrees outside, you should probably leave the tights, skirt and The North Face fleece at home.

Instead, I throw on a pair of jeans, t-shirt, thick cardigan, my ski jacket, gloves and a hat or hood.
Basically, don't be stupid and you will actually find that you are toasty warm (and sometimes even sweating) inside your "shell."

So next time you become wary of the weather up here, just remember — a winter jacket goes a long way!
