Ezra Pound and the Troubadours: The Hamilton College Connection

Save the date! Renowned performer and scholar of medieval music Anne Azéma, Director of The Boston Camerata and AZIMAN,  in conjunction with Director of Special Collections Christian Goodwillie, will present an illustrated performance and lecture examining Pound's work with the troubadour repertoire, his relationship with Professor Shephard, and the current state of performance practice of this 800-year-old repertoire. Azéma will perform some of the troubadour songs that were translated by Pound, and discuss what has been learned since his pioneering work. Join us Saturday, February 15 at 1:00 p.m. in the Burke Library Commons for this special event.

The Papers of Alexander Hamilton [digital edition] contains all twenty-seven volumes of the print edition--including all the personal and public writings by and to Hamilton known to exist, equaling approximately 12,500 documents.

Snow Hill Cloister Manuscripts Acquired

August 21, 2013

Special Collections has acquired five manuscripts from the Snow Hill Cloister in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Snow Hill was a "daughter" of the Ephrata Cloister, an eighteenth century Pietist community in Lancaster County.  The four account books and one manuscript hymnal will be of value to scholars in understanding life at the commune.

Try It Out: SocINDEX with Full Text

August 18, 2013

Burke Library has subscribed to a 60 day trial of the SocINDEX with Full Text database.  SocINDEX contains abstracts for more than 1,300 core journals dating as far back as 1895. An additional 3,350 priority and secondary journals are indexed, along with books/monographs, conference papers, and other non-periodical sources.

Apple & Quill: Creative Arts at Burke

Burke Library is pleased to introduce Apple & Quill, a new creative arts series focusing on creative writing, music, and the visual arts. With support from Hamilton’s Digital Humanities Initiative (DHi), this series will be recorded and archived for future teaching and research opportunities. This fall, the series will feature students and faculty from Hamilton’s own creative writing community.
