Foreign Accents: Chinese American Verse from Exclusion to Postethnicity by Steven G. Yao (Oxford University Press, 2010).
Winner of the 2012 Book Award in Literary Studies from the Association for Asian American Studies. Yao investigates the range of rhetorical and formal strategies by which these writers -- Li-young Lee, Marilyn Chin, Ha Jin, and John Yau -- have sought to incorporate Chinese culture and, especially, language in their works.
"Deeply thoughtful, critically sharp, Foreign Accents creates a provocative trajectory for understanding Chinese American poetry and poetics." -David Palumbo-Liu, Stanford University
