Early American Imprints, Series I (1639-1800)
Collection of digitized documents based on Charles Evans' documentation of items printed in the United States between 1639 and 1800. Includes advertisements, almanacs, bibles, broadsides, catalogs, charters and by-laws, contracts, cookbooks, elegies, eulogies, laws, maps, narratives, novels, operas, pamphlets, plays, poems, primers, sermons, songs, speeches, textbooks, tracts, travelogues, and treaties.

Early American Imprints, Series II (1801-1819)
Collection of digitized documents based on Shaw and Shoemaker's documentation of items printed in the United States between 1801 and 1819. Includes advertisements, almanacs, bibles, broadsides, catalogs, charters and by-laws, contracts, cookbooks, elegies, eulogies, laws, maps, narratives, novels, operas, pamphlets, plays, poems, primers, sermons, songs, speeches, textbooks, tracts, travelogues, and treaties.

Gallica
Bibliothèque nationale de France digital library of texts and images from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century. Although the main emphasis is on Francophone culture, classic works from other countries are also available, in their original language or in translation. Choose the “Recherche” button to search the collection by title, author, subject or keyword.

Google Book Search
Partnership between Google and a number of major research libraries aimed at digitizing their collections and making them available online. For successful searches choose "full view books" and provide a date range.

Internet Archive: Text Archive
Collection of nearly 200,000 out-of-copyright and open source texts.

Making of America (University of Michigan)
Collection of approximately 10,000 books published primarily in the United States between 1850 and 1877.

Women Writers Online
Collection of texts by women originally published between 1400 and 1850.

Wright American Fiction, 1851-1875
Collection of 19th century American fiction listed in Lyle Wright's bibliography American Fiction, 1851-1875.

Microform Collections

History of Women Collection
Collection of pre-1920 literature about the role of women throughout history. From the Sophia Smith Collection at Smith College, the Schlesinger Library at Radcliffe College and other sources. Titles are cataloged individually in ALEX. A Guide to the Collection is available in the reference section (HQ1121 .H6292 GUIDE).
