Accessing Library Databases

You can access almost all of the library's electronic resources from off campus. When you click on a subscription resource from the library's website, you will be prompted for the name and ID number from your Hill Card before you can access the resource. If you can't access a resource using your Hill Card information, contact a research librarian at 315-859-4735 or askref@hamilton.edu for assistance.


Burke Library has a growing collection of over 200,000 eBooks, available to you around the clock from any internet connection. Read eBooks directly online or download to your computer, tablet, e-reader, or smartphone. Have questions or need help with eBooks? Accessing Your Library Account

You can access your Library account in ALEX from anywhere in the world! Using the 7-digit number located on the front of your Hill Card, log in to:

  • Manage your ALEX search preferences or personal account information.
  • View or renew checked out items, Interlibrary Loan (ILL) items, course reserves, and more.
  • Request ILL articles (see below).

Remember that books you have checked out may be recalled by Hamilton students, faculty and staff. If you receive an email notice indicating one of your checked-out items has been recalled, you have five days to return the item. This applies even if you are off-campus, so please be prepared to immediately send back any item that is recalled.

Interlibrary loan (ILL)

Off-campus students may submit requests for journal articles and book chapters unavailable at Burke Library or in the library at your host institution. These will be delivered to you electronically. Books cannot be requested via ILL while off campus. Follow the same procedures as if you were on campus: see our Borrow From Another Library page or email our Interlibrary Loan Department at askILL@hamilton.edu.

Document Delivery

Students who are studying off-campus may request scanned copies of journal articles and book chapters from Burke Library's print collections through Document Delivery. To request articles or book chapters, contact Margie D'Aprix, Interlibrary Loan Coordinator. Please note, this service is only available to students whose status is confirmed through the Office of Off-Campus Studies. Requests will be processed within 24-48 hours. Please keep in mind that we cannot scan entire books.
