Are you using Skype, Oovoo, Google Video Chat, etc. in your classroom or for job interviews this school year? If so, ITS has a suggested webcam that suits most needs of college uses. Conveniently, this webcam is available from the Staples office supply catalog for under $100, and ITS suggests that any department with more than 1-2 needs/uses per semester simply purchase one for use throughout their department.
The webcam is a Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 and is available here:
This webcam works great on all college PC and Mac computers. It has a wide angle lens, meaning you can easily capture video of a number of people at a conference table or in a classroom all at once. It also has internal stereo microphones which will capture audio for a group as large as 12-15 participants, if needed. Larger groups may want to borrow an additional USB microphone from Audiovisual Services.
Although the RCF (Remote Collaboration Facility) formerly in CJ 305 was converted to a standard classroom over the summer, AVS will continue to assist faculty in arranging videoconferencing for academic purposes. The Levitt Center Conference Room (KJ 251A) has a video conferencing system installed and can be reserved through the Events Calendar. AVS will assist with your conference in the Levitt Center. AVS also has two portable videoconferencing systems which can be used in Burke Library or the Science Center.
Videoconferencing support for other needs such as interviews using Skype, Google Chat, etc. will now be supported by the ITS Help Desk. The Help Desk has webcams with a built-in microphone that can be signed out using your Hill Card. Please visit the ITS Resource Center for more information regarding videoconferencing.
